Top Hemp seed benefits

Omega 6/Omega 3 Fatty Acids: Hemp seeds contain Omega 6 and Omega 3 in the ratio 3:1, which is rare in most seeds, and almost ideal for health.

Amino Acids: Hemp seeds are an excellent source of protein. They contain almost all the amino acids, including the essential amino acids that the body cannot synthesise. The only other plant food with a similar protein profile is soya beans. However, hemp seed protein is easy to digest and absorb and is better utilised in the human body than the protein found in soya beans.

Vitamins: Hemp seeds contain high levels of Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, D and E.

Minerals: Hemp seeds contain high levels of calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.

Improved immune system: Hemp seeds have been shown to improve the functioning of the immune system. It could be due to the presence of fatty acids and other phytonutrients or the globulin proteins, which are needed for a fully functioning immune system.

Weight Loss: The combination of fats, protein, and fibre make a person feel full longer after eating hemp seeds. This is useful for those trying to lose weight.

Cholesterol and Cancer Control: Hemp seeds contain high levels of phytosterols which resemble cholesterol. There is evidence that phytosterols lower the amount of LDL cholesterol in the body and can protect the body against cancer.

Diabetes Control: The fatty acids in hemp are known to regulate blood sugar levels. This is beneficial for diabetics and non-diabetics.

Skin Relief: Hemp seeds contain gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA), the “super” polyunsaturated fatty acids. Research has found GLA and SDA to relieve symptoms of certain skin diseases including dermatitis.

Many other benefits: The GLA increases metabolism, reduces the symptoms of PMS, improves the condition of hair and nails, lowers levels of bad cholesterol in the blood, and decreases inflammation in the body. The anti-inflammatory properties benefit those who suffer from asthma, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other inflammatory diseases.

So if you love having a smoothie every day and live outside of Australia consider adding ground hemp seed in or as a garnish on top of your smoothie or even a salad!
