In the past few years Instagram has been abuzz with the cellulite smashing properties of coffee scrubs. This easy DIY hemp oil coffee scrub is a wonderful way to smooth out your skin and help reduce pesky stretch marks, pigmentation and cellulite.
How it works
Hemp oil is one of the most beneficial and nourishing carrier oils. Not only does it soothe cracked and dry skin and improve circulation, it also balances the natural oils in the skin. Rich in fatty acids and vitamin E, it leaves skin feeling silky and hydrated.
Caffeine constricts blood vessels, which decreases redness and swelling in the area. It can increase collagen production, leaving you glowing. Some scientists claim that caffeine can reduce the thickness of fat cells, reducing the appearance of cellulite. Some studies suggest that caffeine can protect skin from UV carcinogens.
Witch hazel is helpful in reducing acne as it decreases redness, oil, inflammation and bacteria on the skin while balancing the skin’s pH level. Witch hazel removes unwanted oils from the skin without drying it out and actually seals in moisture. People have even found that it can be helpful in the treatment of eczema.
The fine texture of brown sugar is gentle on sensitive skin and polishes without causing micro abrasions. Brown sugar also contains AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid ) which can reduce acne scars and soothe skin.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an excellent natural anti-bacterial. Tea tree is a traditional treatment for fungal infections of the skin, nails and feet, when diluted it is also an effective acne treatment.
Coffee can be a little tough on your drains so I would recommend rinsing over a bucket, using a drain cover or going out in the garden to hose off.
1 packed cup coffee grounds (used coffee will work fine)
2 tbs witch hazel
½ cup brown sugar
⅛ tsp tea tree oil
¼ cup hemp oil
- Finely mill your dried coffee grounds – this will make them gentler on the skin
- Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly
- Place in a sterilised jar in the fridge to firm up overnight
- Use scrub on damp skin, then rinse off with a mild soap. This scrub is ideal for use on the upper thighs, butt, hips, stomach and feet
Keeps for up to three weeks in the fridge
